We’re Going Green

d2x_7093.jpgWe’re all concerned about making our homes, our town, our earth a better place for our children to live.  Here at the studio we’re trying to creat a safe space for your children when they come into the office as well as trying our best to protect our planet.  What are we doing?

Since I began the business, I have always recycled.  Every drink (plastic or glass) that a client has finished while here has been put straight into the recycling bin.  Other papers and cardboards also find their way to our recycling center.

For the past year, we have been using Shaklee products.  We use their basic organic cleaner to clean every surface.  And we use their fresh laundry liquid and soft fabric dryer sheets when washing our dress-up clothing and our drapes.  Non-toxic and natural, these products are formulated to be better for the environment and gentler on our fabrics.

For the last several months we have been burning PartyLite candles.  With their low-heat wax that is guaranteed not to burn skin if spilled and their lead-free wicks, these candles are also safe for your children and healthier for our air.

And we are now switching over to recycled bags and boxes for your portraits.  Our packaging supplier, Rice Studio Supply, just started offering Kraft recycled portrait bags, recycled portrait boxes, and recycled portrait shopper bags.  Due to demand for the bags and boxes, we have already been able to switch to these recycled products.  We hope to switch over the shopper bags by the end of the year.

The kids have found all kinds of information on this National Geographic site-

They’re making sure we do our best in our home to help the planet.

Thanks for this information. We’ve been busy looking into what more we can do at our home since I’ve seen several ideas on the Today Show lately.
Are you happy with the Shaklee products?

    Fabulous, Amy!

John and I just got Radient Barrier and extra insulation added to our attic for energy efficiency! It should lower our energy bill while helping reserve the energy plants and best of all keep our house cooler! After the first day, we noticed a significant change. It’s great! We were even able to increase the thermostat temperature in our house. Let me know if you need a company to go through, they were very efficient and offered a great summer deal…50% off!
Next step…solar panels! We would love to be able to afford these! I’ll keep dreaming….

PartyLite candles do offer a great and fantastically safe candle experience. They are also the ONLY FDA approved candle because of there safety & premium quality that you will find no where else. They burn clean and will NOT burn skin if you have a spill. It’s also a great way to conserve energy, by avoiding plug in types of fragrances that constantly burn your homes energy!

    Hi Amy,
I’m researching blogs for a new Internet marketing campaign. Your blog popped up on my Google Alerts for green cleaners. Just wanted to let you know I was here.

Congrats on going green - and your awareness of the importance of taking care to tread lightly on the planet.

I believe we all need to follow in your footsteps. I’ve used Shaklee non-toxic cleaners for over 3 years now. I can never go back. Not only has it been good for us, but it’s the right thing to do for the planet. I noticed you linked to the Shaklee retail site. Did you know that members get a discount and a member website?

I think it’s great that you’re talking about green cleaning products. It’s so important that we get all the toxic chemicals out of our houses. There’s a great summary of what toxins are in “traditional” home cleaners at VeryHealthyLife.com. Pretty scary stuff!
