Always happy to give back to the community…

Throughout this school year I have been donating a free portrait session a month to our MOPS organization to be given out during the meetings.

Back in September I donated a $400 gift certificate to Rackspace for an auction.  This auction was used to raise money for their MS-150 Bike to the Beach team.

Then in February, Alice and I donated a $100 gift certificate as well as a $300 gift certificate to Fabra Elementary’s PTO.  The money from this auction will be used throughout the school year to pay for necessities and student programs that the school district’s budget does not provide for.

For March, we are restarting our “Giving Back Project” with A+ Pediatrics.  This week we delivered dozens of gift certificates for free portrait sessions for them to give to their patients.  In April, we will restart the same program with the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center.  We had halted on both projects for several months while we worked out the kinks in the gift certificate process and while I was sick.  But we can’t wait to start serving their clients/patients again!

And I can’t wait to install canvases in our newest gallery space next week.  Davison Insurance answered our call for a display, and they will be receiving a donation of beautiful portraits on canvases worth over $1000.

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep is a non-profit organization that has been around for two years, composed of volunteer photographers from all around the world who give of their time and images to families dealing with a child’s fatal disease or the death of their child (the photographer donates a photography session and a disc of the images taken for the family to print and use as they wish).

The group and their purpose was presented to me a couple of years ago at a Children and Family Photographers of America conference.  They were looking for new photographer volunteers and were wanting to train them to serve these families in need.  At that time I just couldn’t do it.

But the group’s mission has been tugging at my heart lately, so I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching and have been continually questioning members of the group.  All I’ve heard from other photographers is how difficult it is/would be to photograph a dying child but how rewarding it is to capture these last moments for a family, forever.  All I’ve heard from my heart is that I must do it.

So when I was invited once again to join the group last month, I accepted.  I am currently in the process of being added to their list of available photographers and will soon be going through training.  I plan to begin actively working with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep after our baby is born (after June).  Please pray for me and Shutter-Happy as Alice and I prepare to work with these families and these precious little children.  We will need strength…

As many of you know, Shutter-Happy Photography was born several years ago, with me photographing everything (yes, even weddings).  At that time, my slogan was

“Real-Life Portraits and Photography”

Just overe a year ago I switched to only photographing children and their families.  And my slogan adjusted accordingly to

“Real-Life Children’s and Family Portraits”

Now I’m wanting to tweek that slogan even more to really encompass what I do.  Think fine art, think frills and ruffles, think giggles and grins, think memories and momentos.

Help set Shutter-Happy apart with a great new slogan.  We’ll use the winning tag line in all of our new marketing pieces and reward you with a FREE session and FREE wall portrait!

After years of photographing many pregnant women, I still have very few maternity samples to show in the studio and on the website.  This is because over 3/4 of the women have chosen to keep their images private.

So we’re looking for models- pregnant women around their 7th/8th month that will allow us to use their images in ads, on our walls, and on the website.  If you might be interested in helping us with this maternity project, please give us a ring.

As a thank you, you will receive the session for FREE!  You will also receive a free album print for every image we decide to use on the website.  And if we display any of your images as a wall portrait, you will also receive a wall portrait of your image.
