Captivated by the Light Seminar

amy2.jpgLast night I attended a seminar about lighting.  And as always, I walked away with new ideas and inspiration.

Years ago I learned how to study light and use it to beautifully portray my clients.  Whether using natural sun light or the studio lamps, I have been able to light clients fully to show off all their features or partially to show contours and depth time and time again with gorgeous results.

But wouldn’t you know it?  I’m not being creative enough!  Along with the studio lamps that flash when I trigger my camera, I could also be using the modeling lamps that stay on constantly between the flashes.  These modeling lamps are just every day lights we use in our home.  Using these lamps, I could create very warm, intimate portraits with touches of red, oranges, and yellows.  Any why not use candlelight?  I certainly have a fast enough lens that I could be photographing using just candlelight.  And doing this, I could create gorgeous, dark, rich portraits with deep shadows and beautiful yellow tones.

So maybe I’ll experiment with Ben this week and start using these techniques during parts of my sessions from now on…

Welcome, Alice!

amy2.jpgJust wanted to extend a big “WELCOME!” to Shutter-Happy’s new consultant- Alice Johnson.  I am thrilled that you’ve decided to work with me, and I can’t wait to see what the two of us can accomplish this year!

I won’t introduce Alice because I’m hoping she’ll make herself right at home here on the blog.  So watch for upcoming articles to learn more about her, be on the lookout for new postcards unveiling all the wonderful things we’re going to plan out for this year, and be listening for her phone call if you’ve been on the waiting list for a portrait session!
